About Coir
Coir from the husk of the coconut palm comes coir; one of the most durable natural textiles.
Known for their rich coarse texture, coir fibres are separated from the coconut husk by soaking it in the warm, gentle waters around India and Sri Lanka, swelling and softening the strands until the longer bristles can be removed.
As with all natural fibres Coir is unsuitable for use in any areas where high moisture levels are likely. Coir is one of our most durable materials. To compare coir against our other natural materials please see our Suitability section.
Coir suitability & care
Coir rugs require simple maintenance to preserve their beauty and durability, The amount of traffic / footfall will determine the level of care needed.
Preferred cleaning methods for Coir: Weekly brushing or hoovering. Avoid harsh chemicals and excessive water. Opt for dry cleaning or use a dry-cleaning compound, or get our specially formulated cleaning kit.

Intec works by coating every fibre in a polymer shield, which reduces the impact of spills and watermarks.
